We’re pleased to announce that we have now added Local Cryotherapy to our extensive list of treatments.

What is Local Cryotherapy?

Local Cryotherapy is the spot application of very cold, dry vapour to specific areas of the body.  The device we use converts the liquid nitrogen to -150 degrees celsius.  This vapour is safe, and comfortable to apply to the skin, cooling down the area far more affectively than with icing. It’s quicker, and it’s much, much colder.  And due to the vapour having no moisture content, it is also safer.

The applications for Local Cryotherapy are extensive, but as a sports injury clinic we focus on acute injury, athletic recovery, injury prevention, and performance enhancement.Local Cryotherapy guy

However, cryotherapy has also been shown to help with surgical recovery, ageing and disease management such as autoimmune disorders, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease and degenerative join disease.

Cooling the treatment area reduces pain and inflammation, which allows for more productive and comfortable therapy, as well as accelerated and complete post-treatment recovery.

The cooling works by reducing cell metabolism and secondary tissue damage.  At the same time, it also increases blood flow, which promotes post-treatment healing and recovery.

It can also strengthen muscles and joints, which can prevent future injury.

Local Cryotherapy can be applied to most of the body, including:

  • Muscles, tendons and ligaments: Quadriceps, hamstrings, neck, achilles, groin etc.
  • Lower, middle and upper back
  • Joints: Knees, ankles, shoulders, hips, elbows
  • Any area affected by injury or surgery
