Pregnancy Massage incorporates both remedial and relaxation techniques to ease some the aches and pains caused by the pressures of pregnancy. This provides a multitude of benefits for both mother and baby.
Pre-natal Massage can reduce peripheral swelling, soothe the nervous system, help to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain, and can help reduce stress and anxiety.
You should take care during the first trimester and not try anything new for the first 12 weeks, but Pregnancy Massage is beneficial throughout your whole pregnancy if you have been getting regular treatments. Various techniques are used as the you progress through the pregnancy. The massage may be performed while you are lying on your side, seated, or on our special table mat that allows you to lie on your stomach. Once the pregnancy is advanced, however, we discourage you from lying on your back as this may cause pressure on deep blood vessels.
Regular massage throughout the pregnancy is also said to shorten labour time and the help with the return to optimal fitness after birth.
What to expect in your session
Your therapist will conduct an initial consultation and may perform some preliminary testing if required. Following the development of a client specific treatment plan, your therapist will use various remedial and relaxation techniques to address your specific needs. Throughout the treatment pillows and supports will be used to ensure the optimum level of comfort is achieved.
