Sciatica Treatment Port Melbourne Understanding Sciatica and How Chiropractic and Massage Therapy Can Help – Sciatica Treatment Port Melbourne Sciatica can be painful and disruptive, but it is often highly treatable with the right approach. As one of the options of sciatica treatment in Port Melbourne, Fluid Health would like to offer you a Chiropractic care and massage therapy as one of the effective, non-invasive options that target both the structural and muscular causes of nerve irritation. With a tailored treatment plan and consistent care, most people can achieve significant relief and return to normal activities without long-term complications. Sciatica is a common yet often misunderstood condition that affects millions of people worldwide. People with sciatica typically experience pain that radiates from the lower back into the buttock and leg, sometimes accompanied by tingling, numbness, or muscle weakness. The intensity can range from mild discomfort to severe, debilitating pain that interferes with daily activities. Lymph Drainage Massage in Port Melbourne – Support Detoxification & Well-Being Welcome to Fluid Health, your trusted destination for health management and sports recovery in Port Melbourne. We are delighted to offer lymph drainage massage, a specialized technique designed to enhance lymphatic circulation, reduce fluid retention, and promote overall well-being. Understanding Lymph Drainage Massage The lymphatic system is a vital part of the body’s immune function, responsible for removing waste, toxins, and excess fluids. Unlike the circulatory system, which has the heart to pump blood, the lymphatic system relies on movement, muscle contractions, and external stimulation to maintain proper flow. When the system slows down, it can result in swelling, poor circulation, and a weakened immune response. Lymph drainage massage is a gentle, rhythmic technique that stimulates lymphatic circulation. By applying light pressure and specific hand movements, our skilled therapists assist in moving lymphatic fluid throughout the body, helping to clear congestion, reduce inflammation, and encourage detoxification. The Benefits of Lymph Drainage Massage Many people seek lymph drainage massage for its wide-ranging benefits. This specialized treatment can help with:Detoxification by supporting the body’s natural waste removal process. Improved immune function by increasing lymphatic circulation and clearing out toxins. Reduced swelling and fluid retention, especially in cases of post-surgical recovery, edema, or lymphedema. Enhanced relaxation and stress relief through slow, rhythmic techniques. Healthier skin, as improved lymphatic circulation helps remove impurities and promote a natural glow. Increased energy levels by reducing congestion and improving oxygen flow to the cells. Recovery Pumps deliver serious athletes an aggressive but very natural alternative to passive recovery that far exceeds the results achieved from many traditional modes of recovery. Our system simulates localized “active recovery” in a passive manner because the therapy is conducted at rest. How it Works Sequential intermittent pneumatic compression like the RecoveryPump increases venous return, rapidly accelerating the body’s reabsorption of the elements causing soreness and fatigue in the muscle. Specific levels of compression measured in mmHg, increase circulation at all levels of the venous system, Deep Veins, Saphenous veins, Superficial and Perforator veins, effectively removing metabolic waste faster than any traditional mode of recovery or rest alone. The Benefits of RecoveryPump Easy to Use – Tired athletes have no excuses! Small & DurableNo complex users manual/programmingAdjustable Pressure & Pause settings – Simply set to personal preference/comfortConvenient zipper closure- fast in/out timeSuperior sequential compression- offloads the entire leg with each cycleCustom RecoveryBoots sizing for accurate fit and optimum resultsUnique foot design compresses the bottom of the foot for increased circulationSequential Compression is proven therapy through scientific study, research and experience, both in the medical field and Sports Physiology. Far Infra-Red Sauna Benefits Detoxification: Sweating is the body’s safe and natural way to heal & stay healthy. Infrared sauna benefits include therapy that helps you relax while receiving an invigorating deep tissue sweat, leaving you fully refreshed after each session. Lower Blood Pressure: Far Infra-Red saunas induce a deep sweat to make the heart pump faster, which in turn increases blood flow, lowers blood pressure and helps circulation. Scientific evidence shows the infrared sauna benefits using an infrared sauna a couple times a week lowers blood pressure. Weight Loss: Studies have shown that an infra-red sauna session can burn upwards of 600 calories while you relax! As the body works to cool itself, there is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing... Contrast Therapy” (Ice/Hot baths) A plunge into our ice baths has a multitude of benefits. The general theory behind using ice baths as cold therapy is that the exposure to cold helps to combat the micro-trauma (small tears) in muscle fibers and resultant soreness caused by intense or repetitive exercise. The ice bath is thought to constrict blood vessels, flush waste products and reduce swelling and tissue breakdown. Cold water immersion reduces the ability of fluids to diffuse into and between muscle cells, which reduces inflammation and so-called “secondary” damage. This is why doctors recommend icing immediately after an acute injury like an ankle sprain, since the damage can be exacerbated by prolonged swelling and inflammation from fluids pooling at the injured site. It is likely that the same prolonged swelling exists (albeit on a smaller scale) inside muscles after long, hard efforts. Cold water temperatures also decrease nerve impulses, reducing pain from soreness or injury, and for unknown reasons, further reduce the levels of biological markers of muscular damage. It’s not clear whether or not this is indicative of a true reduction in muscle damage. Your lymphatic system works to eliminate dead cells, excess toxins, bacteria, chemicals and viruses from your body. It’s main role is strengthening and supporting the immune system. If your lymphatic system is sluggish or over-taxed, the fluid flow slows down. You will then get a build up of wastes that reduce your immunity and the body’s access to vital elements it needs to run effectively. The system is located just below the skin and penetrating the muscles and other tissues, including the digestive system. The lymphatic system also acts as a transport system for proteins, water, fats, vitamins, and cells. It plays a major role in the overall health of our bodies. To generate momentum, the lymphatic system relies on your body movement to gently pump the fluid back towards the heart and return it to the circulation. What does a Lymphatic Drainage do? Lymphatic Massage is a whole body treatment that works to move the lymphatic fluid through the lymphatic capillaries and lymph nodes, calming the nervous system, detoxifying the body and boosting the immune system. Involving a range of specialised gentle and pain-free rhythmic pumping techniques, lymphatic drainage massage can be used on people of all ages in varied situations including:treatment at the onset of an injury following an accident or surgeryas part of treatment for cosmetic surgery to enhance recoveryas an anti-inflammatory technique for victims of many... Bowen Therapy If you’ve experienced Bowen Therapy before, you’ll know just how powerful it can be. During a Bowen Therapy session, your practitioner will perform specific light stretching moves over the muscles in a particular sequence. This causes the body to relax and realign – all without painful manipulation or vigorous massage. If you find deep tissue massage painful, then Bowen Therapy might be for you. What is the fascia? Bowen Therapy works by stimulating the fascia. The fascia is one of the most important and understudied systems of the body. It is the connective tissue that covers every single organ, bone, muscle and tendon in the body. The fascia carries nutrients through the body system, and it’s also a neuromuscular transmitter. And the fascia itself is technically the largest organ in the body. So how does Bowen Therapy work? Bowen Therapy technique is designed to stimulate the fascia. When the practitioner lightly rolls their fingers over the muscle in a particular sequence, this stimulation triggers a response from proprioceptors. Proprioceptors are specialized sensory receptors on nerve endings found in muscles, tendons and joints. The proprioceptors are what report tension and stretch within the muscles. This provokes a reaction in the brain, and it will relax the associated muscle. The result is a restoration of joint position and reduction in muscle tension, improving range of motion and reducing chronic pain. What is Bowen Therapy used for? The technique provides relief from pain and discomfort for a range of chronic and... Dry Needling Why would we stick needles in you to relieve your pain? Let us explain. Is Dry Needling the same thing as Acupuncture? No, it’s not. There’s similarities, in that both involve sticking tiny needles into your body at particular points. But the philosophies, aims and outcomes are very different. Most people have heard of acupuncture before. This ancient form of traditional Chinese medicine is well known, and has been used for centuries to treat a wide range of conditions. It’s always used in combination with other forms of treatment like cupping, exercise and herbal medicines. It’s is believed to have originated around 100BC in China, although some experts suggest it may have been practiced a lot earlier. There is a huge range of theories as to how and why acupuncture works, based on a wide variety of different philosophies. Acupuncture techniques can also vary from country to country. But simply put, Chinese Acupuncture is a system of traditional healing where specific points along the body’s energy meridians are stimulated, with the aim of relieving pain and restoring functionality to the organ related to that meridian. So what is Dry Needling, then? The origins of dry needling, surprisingly, have nothing to do with acupuncture. Dry needling originated from western medicine principles and scientific, evidence-based conclusions. In the early 1940’s, two physicians proposed injecting various substances such as saline and painkillers into myofacial trigger points, which are the tight bands of muscle that contribute to muscular and joint dysfunction. They... Cupping An ancient art form, those mysterious bruises, the flames... there’s a lot to unpack. Here, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about cupping. What is Cupping? Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. Air is taken out of the cup to create a vacuum, so when it’s placed on the body, will draw it up into the cup. The cups can be made of glass, bamboo, earthenware or silicone. At Fluid, we use glass cups, and mainly perform flame cupping. Cupping might be trendy now, but it’s not new. It dates back to ancient Egyptian, Chinese, and Middle Eastern cultures. One of the oldest medical textbooks in the world, the Ebers Papyrus, describes how the ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 B. C. It was even recommended by Hippocrates, the man whom many consider to be the “Father of Modern Medicine,” in his guide to clinical treatment. What can it help with? This therapy has been used to treat pain and inflammation for centuries. It has been known to relax muscles, encourage blood flow and ease high blood pressure by soothing the nervous system. Our myotherapists will use cupping to apply a hyper-tensile force – lifting the fascia up from the muscle – rather than applying a sheer force down as used in deep tissue massage. We also use it to release neuromuscular holds. Sometimes the... Pregnancy Massage Pre-natal Massage can reduce peripheral swelling, soothe the nervous system, help to prevent insomnia, muscle cramps and back pain, and can help reduce stress and anxiety. You should take care during the first trimester and not try anything new for the first 12 weeks, but Pregnancy Massage is beneficial throughout your whole pregnancy if you have been getting regular treatments. Various techniques are used as the you progress through the pregnancy. The massage may be performed while you are lying on your side, seated, or on our special table mat that allows you to lie on your stomach. Once the pregnancy is advanced, however, we discourage you from lying on your back as this may cause pressure on deep blood vessels. Regular massage throughout the pregnancy is also said to shorten labour time and the help with the return to optimal fitness after birth. Remedial Massage Port Melbourne Remedial Massage or Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body, through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, by either following or crossing over the muscle fibres, fascia and tendons. Remedial Massage is for those experiencing muscular dysfunction, injury, pain and tension. Using postural corrective exercises along with techniques such as deep tissue, trigger point therapy, dry needling, cupping, lymphatic drainage, myofascial release and assisted stretches (static and dynamic stretches including ART, PNF & MET), remedial massage assists the healing process of injured muscles, provides relief from pain and tension, and helps to reduce the risk of further injury. What to expect in your session Your therapist will ask you to outline your current complaints and may perform some preliminary testing. They will then discuss your treatment plan. During your massage, a firm level of pressure is applied incorporating appropriate remedial massage techniques as determined by your therapist. As each of us experiences treatment differently, the therapist will ensure that the pressure applied is always within the tolerance range of the client. Following your treatment you may be given stretches or strengthening exercises. This style of treatment helps loosen muscle tissues, releases toxins from the muscles and gets blood and oxygen circulating properly. It’s important to drink plenty of water after a treatment to help eliminate toxins from the body. All therapists at Fluid Health venues hold... Myotherapy What is myotherapy? It’s a question we get a lot. What is Myotherapy? Everyone knows what a massage therapist does – they rub your muscles. A remedial or sports massage therapist will work on your soft tissue, often through long, deep strokes designed to relax your muscles. A good remedial massage can greatly reduce your chances of injury, increase blood flow, boost circulation, relieve joint swelling, improve flexibility and help fight fatigue. Myotherapy is all of this, and more. Myo means “muscle”, and Myotherapy itself is the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal conditions, which may cause dysfunction and pain. Simply put, a Myotherapist has gone on from remedial massage therapy to do further study in order to identify various conditions that may be present in the body, and may be trained in more ways to treat them. They may work with various other tools and modalities within your treatment in order to relive pain and tension, including cupping, dry needling, and a wide range of other treatments. They are also able to recommend exercises that may help with getting you moving freely, and without pain. A Myotherapist will utilise a range of treatment techniques to restore and maintain the normal integrity of the soft tissue structures: The muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia. Trigger points within muscles are an example of muscle dysfunction that can cause deep aching pain, local tenderness, referred pain limiting strength and flexibility. Utilising palpation skills, Myotherapists can identify trigger points and deactivate them using... You’re not alone. Swelling in the legs and feet during flights is incredibly common, especially on long international trips where you’re sitting still for extended periods. My name is Freddi Saleeba, I'm a clinical myotherapist with a Bachelor of Health Science and I regularly treat people dealing with fluid retention, sluggish lymphatic flow, and the effects of disrupted circulation and air travel is often a key trigger, even for those who don’t normally experience swelling. Long-haul flights place real strain on the body due to prolonged sitting, cabin pressure changes, dehydration, and disruptions to digestion, all of which can make it harder for your lymphatic system to function efficiently. It’s something I’ve experienced myself and let’s just say, it wasn’t my most graceful arrival. In this post, I’ll explain why flying causes swelling, how your lymphatic system works, and what you can do before, during, and after your flight to help prevent it. I’ll also share one of my own less-than-glamorous travel stories. What Is the Lymphatic System & Why Flights Affect It I often explain the lymphatic system to my clients as our body’s wastage system. It helps drain away dead cells, excess fluid, bruising, toxins, and even clears out sinus congestion from the tissues. It also plays a big role in... Release that tension, open up your chest and breathe easier This easy pec stretch will help you feel more open, balanced, and pain-free. If you spend a lot of time sitting, working at a desk, or doing activities that involve forward posture (like driving or using your phone), chances are your chest muscles are tight. Tight pectoral muscles can contribute to poor posture, shoulder discomfort, and even limit your range of motion. A simple pec stretch can help open up your chest, improve mobility, and counteract the effects of daily habits that lead to tightness. Start by placing your hands on the door frame Then step through the door You will feel a stretch through the front of the chest Relax and move your hands up or down. Repeat Hold each position for15-20 seconds You can vary the stretch by placing your hands higher or lower on the door frame. Try placing your hands high up to start, stretch and hold, then bring them lower, stretch and hold.
